1. Altapass Orchard
The first location on this list is Altapass Orchard which is located in Spruce Pine. It is home to one of the most beloved apple orchards in the entire North Carolina, and it’s not too hard to understand why when you visit there for yourself.
The orchard has been in operation for over 25 years and it is a non-profit orchard too! The orchard works really hard to preserve the Appalachian Culture of the region and the apples they grow have the least amount of harmful chemicals possible.

2. Sky Top Orchard
Sky Top Orchard can be found in Flat Rock, North Carolina, and it has been selling apples to the public since 1968. The orchard and farm are currently in their second generation, being owned by the son of its original owner.
The U-Pick orchard is absolutely incredible and it is filled with a plethora of apple varieties for you to try. Some of the apples you can pick here include Ginger Gold, Early Macs, Candy Crisp, and Gala.
The varieties of apples change depending on which time in the season you visit, so make sure you check the website to see when your favorites are in season.

3. Twisted Apple Orchard
Located in Hendersonville, Twisted Apple Orchard is in its third generation, and it is a 75-acre farm that produces only the most organic of apples.
You can get some of the cleanest and safest apples from this orchard, so if you get the chance to visit, you definitely should.
The orchard is home to many varieties of apples, and you are sure to find some varieties you like here. Some of the most popular varieties include Granny Smith, Honey Crisp, Gala, and Early Fuji.
Once you have finished picking apples, you can check their farm store for local goods, and you can go for a walk in the area to really feel immersed in nature.
When you visit Twisted Apple Orchard, make sure that you try some of their baked goods and craft-brewed apple ciders!

4. Stepp’s Hillcrest Orchard
Another orchard found in Hendersonville, Stepp’s Hillcrest Orchard has been around for 50 years and it is completely family-owned. The owners take pride in their apples for being some of the best and most tasty in all of North Carolina.
You can choose from a variety of over 21 apples at this orchard, some of which include Ginger Gold, Gala, Honey Crisp, Jonagold Mutsu, Arkansas Black, Pink Lady, and Granny Smith.

Along with apple picking, Stepp’s Hillcrest Orchard has many other attractions you can take part in. Some of these include a wagon ride through the orchard, a 5-acre corn maze, and target hitting with the orchard’s apple cannon!

5. Owenby Apple House & Orchard
This apple house and orchard have been owned by the Owenby family for over 60 years. In the present day, the location is home to over 90 acres dedicated to apples and other produce.
You can choose from 18 different varieties of apples when you visit Owenby Apple House & Orchard. Some of the most popular apples you can get here include Arkansas Black, Pink Ladies, Ginger Gold, and Gala.
There is also an onsite store that is dedicated to selling things like apple butter, boiled peanuts, jams, and jellies, as well as handmade wood crafts. The apple house and orchard are also home to a corn maze that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

6. Mountain Fresh Orchards
Mountain Fresh Orchards began as a humble farm owned by Red and Joan Price in the 1980s and it has grown into one of the most beloved apple orchards in all of North Carolina.
You are guaranteed fresh-picked apples when you visit as well as lots of other tasty homemade apple treats such as apple fritters, apple dumplings, and fried apple pies.
There are over 17 varieties of apples for you to choose from when you go picking there, some of which include Honey Crisp, Gala, Granny Smith, and Pink Lady apples.
The orchard is open to the public for picking between the months of August and November, so check the website to see which apples are available during each month.

7. Justus Orchard
Having been around since the late 1800s, Justus Orchard is one of the oldest orchards in the entire of North Carolina, and it is currently in its sixth generation.
The family-owned establishment has been growing apples for over 100 years and they are a trusted and respected business by the local community.
Justus Orchard is home to many different types of apples, and you will be spoilt for choice when you go there.
Some of the varieties available here include Ambrosia, Mutsu, Cameo, Rome, Evercrisp, Gala, Honeycrisp, Summerset, September Wonder, and Golden Delicious.

8. Grandad’s Apples ’N Such
Another family-owned apple orchard and farm, Grandad’s Apples ‘N Such has been in operation since 1994 and it is a family-owned establishment.
Their U-Pick season for apples begins in August and runs all the way into late October, so you have plenty of time to prepare if you plan on visiting.
There are over 40 varieties of apples available for you to pick in the orchard, some of which include Ginger Gold, Gala, Swiss Gourmet, Honeycrisp, Ruben, Jonagold, Shuzuka, Cortland, Red Rome, Arkansas Black, Braeburn, Nittany, and Evercrisp.

Coston Farm & Apple House is the perfect place to visit if you want to pick some delicious apples and also have a fun-filled day out with the family.
The orchard and apple house have been around for over 40 years and they pride themselves on being a family-friendly place.
There are plenty of apple varieties for you to choose from in the orchard, some of which include Golden Delicious, Cameo, Granny Smith, Fuji, Rome Beauty, Mutsu, Stayman, Cortland, Early Fuji, Arkansas Black, and Jonagold.
There is also a gift shop on site that is stocked full of autumnal decorations and baked goods.

10. Creasman Farms
Finally, we have Creasman Farms which is another family-run apple orchard located in Hendersonville. Founded by Clarence Creasman, the farm is now owned by his son, Bobby, and his wife Dawn.
The apple orchard is open from 1 pm to 5 pm during the months of September and October.
There are over 40 heirloom varieties of apples available at Creasman Farms, some of which include Gold Rush, Gala, Shenshu, Mutsu, York, Summer Rambo, Golden Delicious, Pink Lady, and Granny Smith.
