When Can You Pick Strawberries In Maryland?

Strawberry picking season in Maryland typically runs from May to about early June, but be sure to call ahead and check with the farm or location you want to visit to be sure that the strawberries are ripe enough for picking and purchasing.

Top Tips For Picking Strawberries

If you have never been strawberry picking before, and you want to ensure that you get the best pick of the crop, then we have a few tips for you when strawberry picking in Maryland.

You will want to feel the strawberries and pick the firmest ones. Ensure that they are very red and vibrant in color, as this means that they are ripe.

If you pick strawberries before they are ripe, then they will not ripen after being picked, so keep that in mind.

You should also check before you visit to ensure that they are open when you arrive, or that the strawberries are ripe and ready to be picked.

Some farms also only take cash at the ‘pick your own’ fields, so be sure to have some ready before visiting.

In addition, don’t panic if you and the kids pick too many strawberries, you can always freeze them or make them into your own homemade jam if you don’t want them to spoil before you get the chance to eat them all.

Most farms will provide a bucket for picking, and will package them up for you when you’re done, but you can take your own bucket or basket for the pick your own fields!

To summarize, there are ample opportunities and many farms in Maryland available for strawberry picking.

You can find some of the freshest, most delicious strawberries around that will surely beat buying them from the store!
